Speed (SPD)
Final speed figure for a past race. Higher means a faster performance.
The figures and filters on the handicap page.
Final speed figure for a past race. Higher means a faster performance.
Pace figure at the first call. It shows how fast the horse was early.
Pace figure at the second call, between the early fraction and the finish.
Pace figure from the late stages of the race. Higher means a stronger finish.
Where the horse finished. Lower is better, so 1 ranks ahead of 5.
Running position at the start, first call, second call, or stretch. Average, best, and last work the same way as finish. Lower is closer to the front.
The margin at that same call. A positive number is lengths behind the leader. A negative number is lengths ahead, which is how a position of 1 is printed on the sheet. Head, neck, and nose count as 0.1, 0.25, and 0.05. Average lengths back uses the same filtered races as the other figures.
A 1–100 score of the race type, not the printed class rating. Graded stakes sit at the top, then listed and ungraded stakes, allowance, optional claiming, maiden special weight, and claiming. A blank class line is left out of the average.
How the matching past races are combined. Average uses every race that passes the filters. Best keeps the strongest figure. Last uses only the most recent match.
Race length. Sprints are under 8 furlongs. Routes are 8 furlongs and up. A custom range uses the furlong boxes.
Dirt, turf, all-weather, or a race taken off the turf.
The going: fast, good, wet, or yielding and soft. It groups the track-condition codes from the past-performance line.
How many of the most recent matching races to keep. Last 1 is the latest race that passes the other filters.
The opening odds printed on the card, such as 4/1 or 9/2. They sit to the left of the horse.
The saddle-cloth number. The color follows the standard North American cloth for that number.
Maiden, claiming, allowance, optional claiming, or stakes. The conditions line under the race title carries age, sex, and weight.
Purse is the total prize money. Post is the scheduled local post time from the card.
